Homework candles are all soft scents and warm light in hazy glass jars, rooted in the five elements. Handmade in small batches at their London studio, they use a silky blend of rapeseed and coconut wax fragranced with responsibly-sourced natural essential oils and fragrance oils.

With a burn time of 35-40 Hours approx.

EARTH

  • Think of Earth as stability: the meeting point of moderation and balance, nature and nurture. The element that makes you feel grounded, at home with yourself and others

  • Scent profile: Floral, Earth, Spice, Musk

  • Top notes: Fir needle, Elemi
    Middle notes: Rose, Geranium, Cardamom, Clove Bud, Black Pepper
    Base notes: Musk, Chinese cedar, Patchouli

FIRE

  • For fans of their former ‘Bai San’ candle.

  • Think of Fire as warmth: something that welcomes us in, hums with emotion and connects us to our past. It’s the element that helps us find our passion and joy, be creative and gives us energy to take action.

  • Scent profile: Smoke, Wood, Spice, Citrus

  • Top notes: Blood Orange, Hiba
    Middle notes: Clove, Coriander
    Base notes: Sandalwood, Patchouli, Amber, Cade, Chinese Cedar

METAL

  • Think of Metal as strength: taking shape and holding its form, it’s something magnetic, gravitational and structured. It’s the element that symbolises the essence of life and its value. Helping to make us feel certain in our choices; to see past ourselves; to let go.

  • Scent profile: Wood, Citrus, Metal, Pepper

  • Top notes: Lime, Mandarin
    Middle notes: Bay leaf, Pink Pepper, Tobacco
    Base notes: Teakwood, Ho wood, Vetiver, Chinese Cedar

WATER

  • Think of water as wisdom: the calm ebb and the free flow, giving us time to pause, collect ourselves and gather strength, revealing our capacity to adapt.

  • Scent profile: Citrus, Water, Wood, Spice

  • Top notes: Bergamot, Neroli, Petitgrain
    Middle notes: Rain, Lotus, Caraway
    Base notes: Chinese cedar

WOOD

  • Think of Wood as growth: the embodiment of moving towards something and of constant renewal. It’s the element that gives us the structure and the flexibility to cultivate an expansive, hopeful and optimistic life (even when it feels challenging). The one that encourages us to look ahead, plan and make decisions and find clarity.

  • Scent profile: Wood, Earth, Moss, Green 

  • Top notes: Pine, Hinoki
    Middle notes: Ho Leaf, Clary Sage, Cypress
    Base notes: Chinese cedar, Patchouli, Oakmoss, Vetiver

Bio

Homework Studio is a lifestyle brand helping you find balance. A modern ode to ancient Chinese philosophy, Homework create sensory stories through fragrances that celebrate heritage, balance and nature. Inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and the healing power of nature, they produce a succinct range of toxin-free candles and oil blends to inspire people to live more in line with their bodies, the world around them and the seasons. Homework plays homage to founder Stephanie’s heritage and family history. Their series of five new scents represent the five elements found in TCM – Fire, Metal, Wood, Earth & Water. These elements are often associated with different colours, tastes, emotions and seasons. All the products are handmade in small batches in their East London workshop. Made using only natural or toxin free ingredients and minimally packaged in eco-friendly materials. The candles are hand poured into smoked glass vessels designed to be used around the home when the candle is finished.
