Bottle vases carved with ginkgo leaves using sgraffito, three leaves to each piece, in two speckled stoneware clays under a high-fired rutile and titanium glaze. KJA chose the ginkgo because it is a living fossil, surviving over 200 million years and among the very few trees to withstand the atomic bomb at Hiroshima. A symbol of hope, resilience and peace, and of finding stability and grounding.

Bottle vases, each piece unique. 

16-20cm high and 9cm wide approx. 

Work from the collection is available to pre-order from 1 September. The exhibition runs in store from 8 to 13 September. After that, all work is ready to collect from the shop, or for dispatch, from 14 September.

Part of the Hope Collection, launching at Fodder Hampstead on 8th September 2026 in collaboration with I Have This Thing With Ceramics. 20% of all Hope Collection sales throughout September are donated to Hope Unlimited Charitable Trust (registered charity no. 1013880).

Bio

Kirsty, the Scottish maker behind KJA Studio Ceramics, studied textiles at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen. Following ten years of making textiles, Kirsty has used this skill set to inform her new direction into ceramics. Kirsty’s transition from cloth to clay has been challenging, exciting and ever changing, she learnt her craft through evening classes in Edinburgh and a lot of self-taught practice. For Kirsty, clay is a lifetime of learning and one that she loves to engage with every day. Her ceramics are inspired by nature and the path it leaves behind on the landscape. The vessels themselves are simple shapes taken from Kirsty’s interest in the aesthetics of past objects - milk churns, chemistry beakers and enamel wear. These shapes will continue to inform each other as she grows and develops her practice.
